Stork SP Aerospace
Profile
Stork SP Aerospace is specialized in landing gear and landing gear related components. The Company was founded in the early 1960s as a special division of truck builder DAF. In september 2004, our company was incorporated in the Stork Aerospace group. Our core competence is the design and production of landing gears, in which we have over 30 years of experience. In addition we produce a variety of hydro-mechanical assemblies such as actuators and transmissions. We recognize the aviation industry's requirements for safe, light, durable and cost-efficient systems that have to perform under the most extreme of conditions and on the highest safety level. Our highly educated workforce, including 40 engineers and 80 mechanics, translates these requirements into the best possible solutions, mastering both traditional and newly developed technologies.
Within the aerospace industry we increasingly act as a co-developing and co-manufacturing partner. Programs we service and supply include Lockheed Martin's F-16 , C-130 Hercules, P3 Orion and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, Boeing AH64 Apache, Embraer's ERJ 135/145 jetliner and NHI's NH-90 helicopter, for which we have designed and developed the complete landing gear and the intermediate gearbox.
Our vision
The aerospace industry is, and will always be, focused on the reduction of cost, weight and negative effects to the environment, such as noise. Stork SP Aerospace aims to distinguish itself as a partner through an inventive approach to realizing such reductions. By using innovative materials and designs, both the weight and aerodynamics of landing gear structures can be further improved. Stork SP Aerospace operates at the forefront of new technologies and is well positioned to become and remain a world-class player in the development and application of conventional metal- and composite landing gear components.
Innovation breeds success
Stork SP Aerospace has adopted a technology roadmap concentrating on five priorities: affordability, weight reduction, environmental effects, understanding system behavior and design freedom.
We have placed ourselves on the leading edge of composite technology with regards to the application in load carrying primary structures in landing gear. Together with the Dutch Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), we designed an all-encompassing technology package, which can qualify and reliably produce high quality, thick-walled composite structures. Structures that will result in up to 30% weight savings as compared to baseline metal structures.
In close cooperation with the Royal Netherlands Air Force, the first composite drag brace on an F-16 landing gear was tested in actual flight. Main advantages of composites are significant weight reduction, better resistance to fatigue and corrosion, considerably shorter lead times and a large freedom of design.
