Lessons Learned - Heat Damaged Scaffold Boards

Scaffold boards, which were adjacent to the Waste Heat Recovery Unit (WHRU), became partially charred because two ducting faces with failing gasket material caused an increase in heat.

After the startup of the gas turbine, and following a routine inspection of the scaffold, it was discovered that an adjacent WHRU ducting gasket had failed. The escaping hot exhaust gases (>500°C) partially charred the scaffold boards.
