Lessons Learned - Life Jacket Air Cylinder
Whilst attempting to remove a beam clamp, a scaffolder injured their ribs when the ratchet spanner they were using slipped.
The injured party (IP) stretched to undo a beam clamp fitting with a ratchet spanner and in the process, the ratchet spanner slipped. The momentum of the tool slipping forced the IP’s body to move uncontrollably into a scaffold tube beside them. At the time of the incident, the individual was wearing a Challenger Work Safe Life Jacket that comes equipped with a small air cylinder inside the jacket. The uncontrolled movement caused the air cylinder to press tightly against and under the right hand side of the IP’s rib cage.
