Lessons Learned - Safety Glasses Foam Insert

A rope access technician attempted to remove a foam reinforcement insert from a pair of safety glasses. When applying pressure to the edge of the frame, the technician’s middle finger slipped causing a superficial cut.

In order to remove the foam insert in this instance, the technician needed to apply a reasonable amount of pressure to the edge of the glasses’ frame. The inserts’ horizontal sides have jagged edges resembling sharp teeth, so when applying pressure to this area, the technician’s finger slipped causing the injury. The foam reinforcement inserts in safety glasses can be clicked back into place if removed, however this is not advised.
