Safety Alert - Blasting Operations Injury

While undertaking blasting operations on pipework, an individual suffered an injury to their leg. The injured party (IP) was positioned on their back with the blast hogger hose routed above their head, on the left hand side.  The left hand was operating the deadman control and the right hand was controlling the hogger hose discharge nozzle.

The IP required to alter the position of a temporary lighting unit and removed one hand from the hogger hose whilst continuing to blast.  During this time, the hogger nozzle moved and discharged garnet; penetrating the IP’s blast suit and clothing causing a superficial injury to the upper left leg.
