Safety Alert - COSHH Assessments

An inspection was recently carried out on a North Sea installation on which Stork carry out work involving hazardous substances.  During the course of the inspection a number of issues relating to the management and controls in place regarding COSHH were identified.

  • An inspection of a worksite found that the COSHH assessment was stapled into a plastic wallet meaning that it was not immediately accessible by those at the worksite.
  • Stork Painters were observed unshaven although their work required them to use respiratory protective equipment (RPE).The employees were challenged on this on two successive days by the inspector as they were found unshaven on both days.
  • An Air Fed mask was found in poor condition with no evidence of it having been routinely checked or inspected.Other brand new Air Fed masks were within the PPE store on the platform.
