Safety Alert - Dropped objects during rope access

A rope access team were descending fixed vertical ladders with a back scratcher. They had their equipment bags tethered to their harnesses using a ‘cow tail’ secure connection, which was hanging under the climber.

The area was particularly windy and during the descent the wind caught one of the bags; causing two tools to fall from the inside. The tools fell approx. 30-35 metres, landing on a steel beam roof. Given the weather conditions there was a lot of lateral movement during the fall, however the tools fell within a blocked off area.

The tool bag used was a standard issue rope access tool bag with a draw string opening and a lid that clips closed. It has been established that the bag was not properly closed prior to the descent.
