The ‘Safety Innovation’ category is a new addition to the REACH Beyond Zero Annual Safety Awards for 2013.

The category focuses on an individual or team who has developed and introduced a new technology, system or work practice which has improved individual, plant or operational safety.

Nominations for the award were received from across Stork’s global business, including the UK, the Netherlands, Trinidad & Tobago and Colombia, which is testament to our commitment to continually innovate and improve the safety of our operations.

The REACH Beyond Zero Steering Group had the unenviable task of deciding the final three entries to go forward for the awards ceremony and they are detailed below:

Inertia Reel Anchor – Developed by the Scaffold Design Team, UK

The anchor allows scaffolders to safely attach their complete fall arrest equipment to any application of scaffold in locations where there is no adjacent steelwork.

The anchor, which was developed by the company’s scaffolding department, allows operatives to safely attach their complete fall arrest equipment to any application of scaffold in locations where there is no adjacent steelwork.

The development of the anchor was driven by Bill Abbott, Group Scaffold Manager for Stork,  who ensured rigorous design, manufacture and testing process was followed to ensure the anchor was approved to the highest industry safety standards and specifications.

Benzene management programme – Developed by Lisaan Dipchan, HSE Advisor (OH/IH), Trinidad & Tobago

Lisaan was recognised for activity related to Benzene management implementation and awareness raising.

She led the implementation of Benzene management during all BG T&T shutdowns over the past two years through a structured programme of measurement, monitoring and health surveillance.

Lisaan was one of six individuals to win a BG T&T President's HSSE Award for Q1 2013 for her innovation and HSSE leadership

.

Hot Bolt Clamp – Developed by the Onsite Machining & Bolting Team, UK

The innovative and multi award-winning system enables the safe removal and replacement of corroded bolts on live flanged connections that have eight bolts or less, with no disruption to ongoing production.

The technology allows an Operator to eliminate an identified threat of pressurised release almost instantly and improves the safety for offshore operatives and the asset as a whole by reducing the likelihood of unscheduled releases which can have a devastating impact offshore.

The HBC has won three industry awards in recognition of the safety and efficiency benefits it delivers.
