Safety Alert - Pre-use checks of breathing apparatus

The high importance of carrying out pre-use checks before using Breathing Apparatus (BA) equipment was highlighted recently.

During a routine pre-use inspection of a BA HP Air Hose, observant personnel found that one of the hoses (pictured) had blistered and subsequently ruptured the outer sheath of the hose. This early discovery ensured that the damaged hose was removed from the system, quarantined and replaced before the system was used by personnel.

Investigations are currently ongoing, to ascertain why the hose ruptured.

Please ensure that on each and every occasion where BA equipment is to be used, that pre-use checks are carried out and subsequent checks on hose lines and equipment are completed at regular intervals during use. Any equipment that is found to be faulty must be reported immediately to your Supervisor.
