Stork shortlisted for EI safety award

Stork has been shortlisted in the EI Awards 2012’ Safety’ category for its Inertia Reel Anchor scaffolding innovation.

Stork has been shortlisted in the EI Awards 2012’ Safety’ category for its Inertia Reel Anchor scaffolding innovation.

This award will acknowledge the year’s most impressive new step towards enhancing the energy industry’s safety record and the winner will be announced at a formal awards ceremony on 15 November in London.

The anchor, which was developed by the company’s scaffolding department, allows operatives to safely attach their complete fall arrest equipment to any application of scaffold in locations where there is no adjacent steelwork.

The development of the anchor was driven by Bill Abbott, Group Scaffold Manager for Stork,  who ensured rigorous design, manufacture and testing process was followed to ensure the anchor was approved to the highest industry safety standards and specifications.

The inertia reel anchor was first rolled out for use on Talisman’s North Sea Flotta onshore oil terminal in February 2012. Now more than 100 scaffolders use it at the site on a daily basis and the safety improvements have been significant.

Bobby Keen, Project Manager for Stork, said: “The inertia reel anchor has been a major safety positive innovation for our scaffold team at Flotta when working at height. Not only has the anchor improved safety and given the scaffold teams confidence that the anchor will assist in reducing a fall it has improved efficiency and productivity due to the fact it can be attached and secured within seconds.”
